Legalsized gets published! When do we get tenure?

July 11th, 2008 Posted in Digital Litigation Solutions, From the Team, Legalsized Blog, Trial Consultants, Trial Graphics

The Legalsized team was asked to write an article response for The Jury Expert published by the American Society of Trial Consultants; here is a very abridged summary:

The average juror is not an expert in medicine, engineering, physics, or law; by design, they come from all walks of life. What they do have in common is the expectation of being dazzled with compelling evidence and graphic demonstrations as seen on popular television. This phenomenon of expectation is so common it has been dubbed ‘The CSI effect’. Modern people (aka potential jurors) choose to learn using the Internet and television, so why then does our legal system try to teach them using lecture, argument, and outdated blowups?

Jurors agree that properly executed trial presentations are more credible than the average expert witness. In many cases trial presentation cost less than expert witnesses, and avoid the vulnerability of expert witness cross-examination. Most litigation consultants have seen glassy eyed jurors slouched over fighting testimony induced sleep suddenly lean forward and pay attention to a simple 3-D models/animation. The interactive experience of these animations provide entertainment AND education; satisfying the modern juror’s expectation of visual stimulus while effectively persuading them.

3-dimensional virtual models and animations bring court cases to life. 3-D models and animations are a very effective visual aid used in today’s courtroom for explaining to, and showing a juror pool a exactly what happened in a particular accident, scene recreation, medical malpractice suit, etc. The use of 3-dimensional images and animations is vast and can be used for simple to complex illustrations and keep jurors interested in strategic arguments. The technology has been around long enough that most people are surprised to find how affordable the 3D animations are.

As with any type of technology, it took time for 3D animation and virtual models to gain a foothold in the legal system, but the technology is here along with the demand by tech-savvy legal teams in order to secure judgment. Here is a quick YouTube video short detailing what may be the future of 3-dimensional technology in today’s courtroom.

This type 3-D animation technology has a lot of similar characteristics to new age video games where it shows all different type of angles and complexities

Should get great publicity so that those in the justice system have access to the progress being made. Great step forward.

After knowing you for so many years, Legalsized getting published comes as no surprise to me. I may need to use the “CSI effect” to try to beat a traffic violation.

Having served on a few juries and as more than a bit of a computer technology guy, it’s GREAT to see you take some initiative and “connect the dots”. It makes your publication unique and provocative, not only to the users, but also for casual readers! I’m going to point a few of ‘my type’ to it…
