Technology and the Legal Profession

January 24th, 2008 Posted in Videotaping Depositions

Technology dictates the pace of an industry. Industries move and evolve with the advances in technology. The legal industry has been extremely slow to accept new technological changes. The lack of new technological acceptance and use has put the legal industry way behind the eight ball as compared to other fields of work. Until recently, the legal world has not been taking advantage of the benefits technology has to offer.

Thankfully, the legal industry has started to incorporate new technologies, specifically digital formats. Digital based services offer an extra element to every legal argument. With digital records, any admissible evidence can be visually presented to jurors without them having to leave the courtroom. Visual displays support arguments as it clearly delivers the intended message to jurors limiting confusion. Digital recordings help from discovery to judgment and beyond as records can be securely archived and retrieved.

You guys seem right on point. People are used to communicating, understanding, and responding digitally. It’s nuts that one of the most critical and important elements of our world- the judicial system- is one of the slowest to adapt to and utilize these important tools.
